Antique Post and Beam Hand Drill

From the TOH Online Editors Inbox, Gordon B. of Nashua, IA asks:

"My great grandfather used this drill to drill peg-holes in barn beams. I can't seem to find anyone to tell me more about it. Can you tell me more or direct me to someone who can ?"

Hello from ohio,try Roy underhill on pbs.........he loves those old tools.....I do too, tho I am not able to help you @ this time..Or the amish carpenters...they still use them....or Ernie conover he has a timber framing class. I do know how-ever you do sit on the drill to uset it ..... I hope this message finds you well....Timothy ps..Ted Benson hes a real wood god......
