antique lighting fixture to new wiring

I have just refinished an antique lighting fixture. It only has two wires - a copper wire and a stainless steel wire wire. Which wires get attached to what color wires in the ceiling of our new home?

Re: antique lighting fixture to new wiring

If properly wired -copper to black, silver to white. To check to see if it is properly wired you would need some type of continuity tester or ohm meter. The copper wire should be connected to the center button in the light socket and the silver wire to the threaded part of the socket.
