Anti syphon faucets

I have recently installed my own yard sprinkler system as outlined on one of TOH episodes. I installed a timer to run the system automatically. However, when I leave the system pressurized (faucet turned on) so that it can water in the mornings, I have dripping water in my finished wall of the basement directly below the anti-syphon faucet. Is this a safety feature of the faucet, to bleed off pressure, or is my faucet faulty?
Having a sprinkler system that I have to manually turn the water on & off isn't of much benefit to me. The idea is for it to turn the different zones on/off as I have the timer set on different days.
The faucet is in the exterior concrete foundation of my basement. The basement has finished walls & ceiling, so I cannot simply inspect. I noticed the wet, dripping conditions when I removed the water shutoff cover in the wall, also wet carpeting in the area.
Thanks for your help/advice.
