Another Use for Old Tennis Balls

Ten Uses for tennis balls:
In the classrooms at my school that have tile floors, we use old tennis balls on the bottom of the chair legs. This allows the chairs to slide quietly on the floor. Our custodian slit an x on each tennis ball and and then inserted the chair leg into it. My father's senior citizens' tennis club donates their used tennis balls to our school.

Great idea, Marcus - thanks! :-)

I think I'll do that with my dining room chairs, if they'll fit.

I have seen this done before...it works great. Thanks for posting!

Re: Another Use for Old Tennis Balls

People who use walkers have been using this for years. I have been told that tennis balls have just enough friction to keep them from sliding. But easy enough to allow then to slide forward with little effort.

I've used this trick when moving furniture too. Anything with turned legs or pointy bits gets a ball. So far it has stopped me gouging paint along a wall, smashing a window, and also preventing damage to the piece itself.

The neon colored tennis balls also provide a visual clue that this piece has something sticking out of it too. Handy if loads of people are in and out of the house at the same time.
