Animal Intruders!

We’re in the process of buying a house that has been vacant for a while (they say months but I think longer) and there are lots of obvious signs of animals (I’m guessing squirrels) in the house. What are the first steps we should take after closing up the house? Is regular non-toxic cleaner enough or should we bleach the floors/walls? What about the attic, is there a disinfecting bomb (similar to a bug bomb) we could set off for hard to reach areas? The inside of the house doesn’t smell but we have a baby who is crawling so I want to make sure it’s clean...

Re: Animal Intruders!

Kill anything and everything that moves. A lot of very intrusive "critter bombs" will be needed. Set them off and stay away from the house for a good 5 - 7 days. Then, go back in, remove any dead animal(s). And then set off "Bug Bombs", and do the same thing. After that, clean everything with bleach. Bleach is the only thing that will kill the smallest microbe.

I think it would be better to bleach it as well, just to be on the safer side.

Re: Animal Intruders!

I think you should visit a good local animal control service. Yeah, it will cost more.  But you will be safe.

Re: Animal Intruders!

Make sure you clean each and every corner of the house before entering. You are also having a small baby so you should be extra careful and take extra measures so that your baby won't have any problem.
