Advice for the floor of my laundry closet?

Hello,

The floor in my laundry closet is linoleum and 3/4" lower than my tiled kitchen. Can I use this 1/4" sheet of rubber and top it with plywood to dampen vibrations?

Thank you for your help!

Why would you want to cover the rubber with plywood? How bad are the vibrations? With plywood on top, what happens to the floor if water is spilled? Correct, it will rot. You may do anything you wish, it is your house. I would cover the plywood with linoleum or tile. I would also put a drain in the middle of the fllor in case there is a water leak, it will take care of itself.

Hi Andy,

Appreciate your reply! It's a second floor condo so I won't be able to move the stackable washer/dryer if the rubber is on top. I sealed the piece of plywood and am going to use a maliable caulk on the sides to prevent the transfer of vibrations.

My main concern is if that specific rubber can be used as underlayment...

Unless I purchase it, I would not know. Purchase a roll and give it a try. That is about the only way you will find out. I really do not fully understand what you are trying to perform. Earlier you mentioned vibrations. If you are having bad vibrations with an appliance, replace the appliance. There is something now true.
