Adding Attic insulation

I am adding insulation in an attic, there is existing fiberglass insulation from 40 years ago when house was built, I will be using formaldehyde free insulation from JM, is it advisable to first remove the old ins. which probably contains formaldehyde, or just install new over old ?

Any concerns of formaldehyde would be from "off gasing " however after that length of time I highly doubt there is any off gasing occuring.

You should be fine with leaving the old insulation in place and cover over with the
new ------- making sure not to use faced batts.
