a/c window unit full of mosquitoes

We have a moquitoe infestation into the outside back of our a/c window unit. Would it damage the unit if we wrapped screen around the outside of the unit(easy job) or would it be better to make a sreen box to fit on the back outside of the unit? There is an awful smell from these insects and some seem to work their way into the house.

If you've got a mosquito farm inside the unit, then it sounds like it's not draining properly. Installing a weep hole or two to keep standing water out will all but stop them infiltrating from this area. Mosquitoes don't hunt for places to get inside the house, they're looking for food (biting you and your pets ) and a place to breed (standing, stagnant water ). Eliminating breeding grounds will go a long way to stopping the problem.

Spruce is right, you could also make sure the window unit is pitched to the outside. This will help it to drain.

Great lure all of them there so we can be done with blood sucking little bugs.

There's plenty over here that they can have in case they run short ;)
