We are renovation the kitchen of our 1930 house. Exterior walls are about 20" thick schist/fieldstone. We plan on removing the existing plaster down to the stone. In some areas, there is lath, but in others, the plaster is directly on top of the stone. In either case, the question is how to insulate and how to frame out the walls.
- If we spray, should we spray closed or open cell insulation?
- I have read that no wood should be in contact with the walls. How do you create an appropriate barrier between the wall and the studs? Should we use metal studs instead?
- Anything else we should think about as we consider how to insulate the space?
Thanks so much in advance.
