Hi. I am looking to purchase an 1870 home. Among my list of questions is the fireplace in the home. It appears to be time period and the base in the room wraps around the fireplace; however, the fireplace is covering a hot water radiator behind it. Has anyone seen this before? Would it be original or a clever trick done later on?

While nicely done, I would say a later decorating trick.

1870 is a bit early for radiators so I agree- this was added later.
