1835 Doorbell?
Nina

I was wondering if anyone could assist me. My house was built in 1835 (NY) and there is a door pull to the side of the front door that is not hooked up to anything inside, and I would like to repair it. On the outside of the house to the right of the door, there is a round white porcelain knob that pulls in and out. On the inside, there is a brass hook that moves and I'm assuming when hooked up properly would move either a string or something else to ring a bell. Since the knob pulls and doesn't turn, a twist bell would not work. Do you have any idea what type of bell this should be hooked up to and where I might be able to purchase (or view the set up so I could install correctly)? I am trying to find something that would have been used at the time the house was built. An antique would be preferred but repo ok. Thanks for listening. Any advice appreciated!
