1830 house; plaster repair to do; remove window casings first?

We're renovating an 1830's cape in Boston. I plan to spread a coat of joint compound over the gritty plaster to create a new wall surface. Should I remove the window casings first? We will be repairing the windows at some point, probably reglazing but not replacing. Thanks!

If I was doing the job, I'd leave the casing on the windows. Taking the casing off, with the layers of paint that are probably on thm, you may crack some of the casing pieces and then have a repair job ahead of you. You might want to put a little masking tape on the casing to make clean up easier, after the drywall compound gets applied but if not, that's OK too.

Good Luck.
