Zachary Dettmore started working in construction at 11 years old as a laborer, sweeping floors and carrying materials on job sites. Over time, he worked his way up to become a carpenter and eventually founded Dettmore Home Improvements, a company focused on renovating older homes in northern New Jersey.
Along the way, he began sharing his work, tools, and lessons from the job site on social media, where he built a large following interested in craftsmanship and historic houses. That online presence eventually led to him being discovered by the producers of This Old House.
Today, Zach splits his time between running renovation projects, teaching about building science and traditional construction, and occasionally opening walls to see what surprises are hiding inside. His proudest accomplishment, however, is being a father to his two kids.
