Slippery Accessibility Ramp

Can you "reverse" a waterproofing job?

Q:

I have applied a water sealant to my exterior wood accessibility ramp, and it gets very slippery when it rains. What do you recommend to decrease the slipperiness of the waterproofed wood?

Mary, St. Joseph, Michigan

A:

Tom Silva replies: That will be very difficult to do after you've applied a sealant. The only thing you can really do is to get some slip-tape, which comes in all different sizes and creates traction, but doesn't look very good. You can glue it or tape it to the slippery ramp. Unfortunately, I don't know of any "prettier" solution.
