Ceiling Seams Shoddy
Fixing a bad blend after the workmen go home
I have a textured ceiling in my living room. I recently had the
vestibule removed, and new Sheetrock was put up. The new ceiling appears to
match the old except where the two meet. It looks terrible. Do you have
any suggestions? Could I apply another finish on top of this?

Tom Silva replies: Sounds like you got stuck with a sloppy job. To repair the damage, scrape out where the new plaster meets the old, about a six- to eight-inch-wide area, and retexture it. You can buy a patching kit especially for textured ceilings at your local home store. When you're working, concentrate on blending the two styles, being careful not to double up coats. Take your time, watch what you're doing, and the patch job will cover your sloppy workman's tracks.
