In this video, learn how to pick the right primer for the job and for your paint type and learn when to sand for a super-smooth finish.
TIP 1: Save time by using the right primer for the job: a sealer primer to fill in porous bare wood and cover knots and stains; a tinted primer to reduce the number of dark-colored finish coats; and an all-in-one primer paint to speed up general painting.
TIP 2: Latex and oil-based paints can be layered over oil-based primer, but oil-based paint can't be used over latex primer. When in doubt, check the back of the primer can for specifics.
TIP 3: For a smooth finish, sand the wall both before priming and between priming and painting.
