How to Build a Fort
3 hours
Abot $175

Difficulty: Easy to moderate

The assembly is basic, but carrying fencing requires two adults.

In this video, parents and kids learn how to build a fort together.

Steps:

1. Using a jigsaw, cut down the fencing into the four sides by sawing through the brace pieces that hold the pickets together.
2. Using a handsaw, miter the brace pieces 45 degrees at either end.
3. Build a frame for the hatch on the inside of the fencing to hold the pickets together before you cut the hole. Screw twice through every picket.
4. Put hinges on one side of the door so it can swing inward.
5. Turn the fencing over and cut around the frame on three sides.
6. Drill a hole through the door and screw a scrap of wood over it to make the peephole.
7. Carry the four sides of the fort outside and put them in position. Fit the sides together and fasten them with L-brackets at the brace pieces.
8. Cut two triangular corner seats out of plywood. Screw them on to the lower brace pieces, then make them sturdy with a 2x4 cross brace underneath.
9. Drill 7/8-inch holes through the brace pieces in a front corner to hold the flagpole. Attach your flag to some PVC pipe and put it through the holes.
