In this video, This Old House plumbing and heating contractor Richard Trethewey explains how to add sink valves to laundry supply lines.
Steps:
1. Turn off water and disconnect clothes washer hoses from hot- and cold-water pipes.
2. Open the valves to drain the pipes into a bucket.
3. Use close-quarter tubing cutter to cut ball valves from ends of water pipes.
4. Solder in tee fittings to ball valves and to two lengths of copper tubing.
5. Hold the soldered assembly in place against the wall and mark its location.
6. Drill holes in concrete wall with carbide-tipped masonry bit; insert plastic wall anchors into the holes.
7. Screw copper pipe hangers to wall.
8. Solder the vertical tee-and-valve assemblies to existing water pipes.
9. Solder a 90-degree elbow and horizontal length of pipe to the vertical water pipes reach the laundry sink.
10. Remove from stem from the shut-off valves and solder the valves to the pipe ends.
1.1 Connect the clothes washer’s supply hoses to the hot- and cold-water shut-off valves.
12. Turn on water and test your work. -
