Q: How do you lay brick pavers on an existing concrete walk?

A: Tom Silva replies: First of all you have to check the concrete to make sure it's in good condition. If it's nice and flat, you can just lay the pavers right on top. Or you can put down a bed of pre-mixed cement, sand, and stone dust, about an inch to an inch and a half thick, level it, then lay your brick pavers on that. Then sprinkle more stone
dust or cement mix between the bricks and hose it off. The water that
runs down will activate the mix and harden the cement. I'd recommend
that you add a bit more sand to it; you don't need a mix that strong.
Just laying it in stone dust will also work fine. In fact, you can even lay pavers in sand if you want to, but the problem there is that you'll have to put a solid perimeter around the edge to keep the bricks from loosening and falling out.
