Homeowner Martin D'Agostino of Swampscott, Massachusetts receives a visit from general contractor Tom Silva who shows him how to repair and replace his rotting deck balusters. Then, Tom, along with plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey, landscape contractor Roger Cook, and host Kevin O'Connor, ask "What is it?" in the Ask This Old House loft. Afterwards, Richard heads off to Salem, Massachusetts to hook up a refrigerator's ice-maker and water dispenser for homeowner Joe Cole.
Replacing Rotted Deck Balusters
Tom shows a homeowner how to replace balusters on his exterior deck. He shows how to determine proper spacing for the new balusters and how to cut and assemble them.
