General contractor Tom Silva helps homeowners John and Mary Kiley install a pre-finished wood floor in their sons' bedroom. Then Richard takes off for Minneapolis to help homeowner Anne McCandless replace a bathroom sink stopper that's being held together with an old Popsicle stick.
Installing a Pre-Finished Engineered Floor
Tom and the homeowners removed the wall-to-wall carpet and replaced it with a pre-finished floating floor.
Where to Find It
Tom used a flexible pull saw (item #MPS10179) to cut the door jamb casings. It is manufactured by Irwin Industrial Tools. He then installed Dura-wood pre-finished engineered flooring with a "maple select" finish. It carries a 30-year warranty and costs about $4 per square foot. The flooring, foam pad, and shoe molding are manufactured by:

Tom cross-cut the flooring with a compound miter saw (model 3802L) manufactured by: Porter-Cable
Replacing a Sink Stopper
Richard used an adjustable wrench, wide-mouth pliers, and plumber's putty to install the new lavatory pop-up drain.
