Host Kevin O'Connor and general contractor Tom Silva demonstrate how to select and install antique and reproduction door hardware. Then, Kevin and Tom, along with plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey and landscaping contractor Roger Cook ask, "What is it?" Afterward, Richard shows a homeowner how a geothermal home heating and cooling system works.

Finding and Installing Antique Door Hardware

Kevin visited an architectural salvage shop to learn about antique full-mortise locksets for interior doors. Later, back in the workshop, Tom showed Kevin a few reproduction doorknobs and locksets designed to look like antiques. Then, to install the antique doorknobs, Tom showed Kevin how to patch a 2⅛ inch hole in the face of the door.

Geo-thermal HVAC Systems

Richard took a homeowner to visit a house that had a ground-source or "geo-thermal" heating and air conditioning system. During the heating season, this type of HVAC system uses a heat-pump to move heat from the ground into the house. In cooling season, the heat-pump runs in reverse, moving heat from the house into the ground.
