Repairing a leaky rain gutter

Tom helped a homeowner repair a length of "drip edge" along her roof's eave that was allowing water to damage the wooden fascia board. To fix the problem, Tom installed a " filler strip behind the existing drip edge so that water will fall away from the fascia board rather than onto it. To prevent water from running behind the aluminum gutter and onto the fascia board during wind-driven rain, Tom applied a bead of caulking between the fascia board and gutter.

Where to find it?

Aluminum gutters, brackets, caulk, and pressure-treated lumber (which Tom used for the filler strip) are available at most home centers.

Roger showed "The Maine Mouse-ah," a green, plastic device that traps mice. It was available from www.madeinmaine.com, but it is currently sold out and may have been discontinued.

Installing a new fiberglass bathtub and shower surround

Richard and Kevin replaced an old, leaky steel bathtub and shower enclosure with a new fiberglass unit. With the old tub and shower walls removed, they replaced the existing shower valve and installed a new drain assembly on the new bathtub. Next, they inserted the tub into the rough opening and secured it by driving screws at each stud location through the tub's flange. Then, they lifted the one-piece shower surround into place, caulked the seam between the surround and tub, and secured it to the wall studs with more screws. Finally, they installed the valve trim and tub spout .

Richard and Kevin installed a 2-piece fiberglass bathtub and surround that was manufactured by:
