Original Air Date: Week of 01/28/10
Plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey heads to Tampa, Florida to help a homeowner cool off his garage workshop with a ductless air conditioning system. Then Richard, along with landscaping contractor Roger Cook, host Kevin O'Connor, and general contractor Tom Silva ask, "What is it?" Afterward, Tom helps a homeowner eliminate a mysterious leak in her living room ceiling.
Installing a Ductless Air Conditioner in a Garage Workshop
Richard traveled to Tampa, Florida to help a homeowner find a cooling solution for his garage. The homeowner used the garage as a workshop in the summer months, but said that it was too hot and humid in there to work comfortably. To solve the problem, Richard and local expert David Zimmerman installed a "mini-split" air conditioner. The system uses no ductwork. Instead, an air-handler unit is mounted inside on a wall, and the condenser unit is mounted outside.

Eliminating a Mysterious Leak
Tom helped a homeowner eliminate a mysterious leak that was causing damage to the plaster ceiling in her downstairs office. He determined that rainwater was getting inside the wall from upstairs, through a gap between an exterior window and the vinyl siding. To stop the leak, Tom used a polymer-based caulking designed for exterior applications, filling all gaps between the window trim and siding.
Tom used a high-tech caulking specifically made for exterior roofing and siding applications.
