Plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey makes a House call in Wellesley, Massachusetts, to help homeowner Ziad Tarawneh replace the trap under his bathroom sink. Back in the loft, landscaping contractor Roger Cook shows host Kevin O'Connor a few design options for laying out a brick walkway. Then general contractor Tom Silva shows homeowners Rudd Coffey and Melissa Liazos of Watertown, Massachusetts, how to make their cracked plaster ceiling look like new by covering it with drywall.

Fixing Ceiling Cracks
Tom showed how to cover a cracked plaster ceiling using -inch-thick wallboard. He explained that the wood lath behind the old plaster expands and contracts, causing cracking. Tom showed how to find the strapping in the ceiling, which he used to screw the new wallboard into. Tom also used a homemade support made out of 2x4 lumber for supporting the wallboard against the ceiling while fastening. Tom showed a special bit in his drill for screwing in the wallboard screws. He then taped the seams with fiberglass tape and applied joint compound with a taping knife.
