Master Bedroom:
A Master With Class

Finding space for modern conveniences in a historic home is never easy. To create space without altering the Fleming house's facade, TOH removed the dilapidated back porches flanking the rear of the house to make way for an addition. On the second floor, the lofty, bay-windowed space housed a sitting area, walk-in closet, laundry room and master bath. The master bedroom's old windows were replaced with paired doors that opened on to the new space. Plans for third bathroom were scrapped; an expanded closet and a laundry room took its place.

In the master bedroom's new closet, drywall contractor Kevin Landry used a vacuum sander to smooth out rough joints. Traditionally, a sanding pole and good old-fashioned elbow grease did the job. The vacuum sander, an orbital disc sander attached by hose to a vacuum, sped up the job considerably and sucked in 99% of the dust created in the process.
