Available in four grades, from four to 12 inches wide, long-leaf heart pine grows only in the South. In the kitchen, quartersawn, four-inch-wide, 3/4-inch thickplanks were chosen to match the existing floor in the rest of the house. Flooring contractor Mike Murray and his crew then custom stained the planks to match the 112 year-old patina of the dining room floor and sealed with a moisture-cured urethane finish. Refinishing all the floors in the house took 10-12 days.
