Urban Oasis
This private garden space was carved from an unpromising weedy side
yard. We chose the patterned concrete surface for its imperviousness,
shedding water away from the building and its sub-grade living space. At
the back of the courtyard, landscape architect David Hawk called for
curving lines and multi-height plantings to make the tiny backyard seem
larger and softer-an inviting green spot in the middle of the city.
