final of pendant light, how to make a wire pendant out of a vintage wastebasket

A vintage wire wastebasket (this one is from the 1950s) gets a second lease on life as a stunning pendant light in a few easy steps. You'll need a lamp-cord kit—we like the metallic one below (about $50; westelm.com)—and an Edison-style bulb ($3.30; 1000bulbs.com). An opening drilled in the base of the can with a 1¾-inch hole-saw fitting is just big enough to slip the socket through and secure it. Screw in the bulb and you have the ultimate in trash-to-treasure creations.
