Cottage style's upbeat informality means there's plenty of room for idiosyncratic accessories and lively color. Take this room, assembled by Annie Westermann in her turn-of-the-20th-century lake home in Georgia. "I like primitive pieces and Adirondack-style furnishings," she says, but not so much the woodsy cabin look. So she paired a whitewashed twig table and chair with a colorful chest and cottage classics, like a wicker rocker and a braided rug.
