Historic Kitchen for the 21st Century: After

Who: Steven and Joann P.
Where: Wichita, KS

Restoring the kitchen with period sensitivity while creating a space within the existing footprint that is usable for cooking and entertaining was our main intention. The 10-foot-high ceiling was laminated with individual 2-inch boards of tongue-and-groove beadboard. The overhead work was extremely tiring. But the final product is gorgeous! We love the house, believe we are stewards of it, and intend to leave it in better condition than it was when we purchased it.

Who did the work: We did all the work ourselves.
Cost: $25,000-$50,000
