Exposing Ceiling Beams and Using Reclaimed Wood for Rustic Look: After

Who: Melissa C.
Where: West Charlton, NY

We reconfigured the layout of the kitchen to include a first-floor laundry, a walk-in pantry, a new functional entry, and all the while doubled the size to include a 3-by-10-foot island. The basement stairs were moved to a discreet place in the dining room. We are most proud of the idea that we maintained the historical integrity of the kitchen while creating a functional space to meet the needs of a growing family.

Who did the work: We did most of the work ourselves.
Cost: $10,000-$25,000
