A Shady Retreat: After

Who: Elizabeth O.
Where: Elgin, IL

When I started this project, I was a complete novice. I just learned through trial and error, until I eventually got the right look and feel. Due to the sheer size of my yard, I need a lot of plants to fill the space and often need multiples of one species to get the desired effect. I usually wait to the end of the season in hopes of catching a good sale, and I also have several friends in my neighborhood with whom I trade plants.

Who did the work: I did all the work myself.
Cost: $5,000-$10,000
