A Shady Retreat: Before

Who: Elizabeth O.
Where: Elgin, IL

When we acquired the property, the yard had been used as a dumping ground for decades. We started by removing three dump trucks' worth of trash and yard debris, and cut down 28 trees to bring sunlight to the heavily shaded lot. Season by season, I've added beds, shrubs, perennials, urns, yard art, and birdhouses in hopes of creating a park-like setting. It has been an ever-changing project that I love building on to every year.
