An Adirondack-Style Playhouse: After

Who: Karl S.
Where: Clifton Park, NY

I used pressure-treated framework, wood-shake siding, tongue-and-groove pine interior, and Lexan windows with opening shutter panels to reveal screening. There's an interior loft, a trap-door entry through the floor, a spiral slide exit, two custom-made water cannons, and electric outlets and lighting with cable TV. The wrap-around deck is all pressure-treated lumber and covered with rough-sawn pine. I saved money by using less-expensive rough-sawn lumber from a local mill.

Who did the work: I did all the work myself.
Cost: $5,000-$10,000
