Saving a Family Heirloom: After

Who: Michael S.
Where: Chesterfield, VA

It's great living where your father and grandfather grew up. This house was originally two one-room farmhouses that were joined together in the late 19th century. We tried to salvage most of the original wood trim, doors, and windows, even if we used it in a different area of the house. We milled our own trim and moldings as much as possible to duplicate the original.

Who did the work: We did most of the work ourselves.
Cost: More than $100,000
