Where to Use Them: Lawns

To mimic the green-carpet effect, a groundcover should stay relatively short and spread into a fairly uniform blanket. Stick with a single species for the 
most realistic effect. The plants must also withstand foot traffic—unless your pseudo-lawn is just for looks, such as the one shown here. Blanketed with low-growing juniper, it has a tidy appearance year-round with no upkeep.
