They got help from the high-school football team, which pitched in to lay rebar and pour the concrete footings, but still. The couple then pumped in concrete for the new floor and brought in 900 concrete blocks for new walls—through the same tiny window. Now they have a cozy family room with radiant heat, custom cabinetry, and a built-in entertainment system. Not that they've had time to enjoy it. After taking a week off, they gutted their kitchen.
