Forestry-Inspired Fireplace: After

Who: Ian Z.
Where: Seattle, WA

My wife has a strong background in forestry and we both love wood and trees. Bringing that interest to the project was fun and rewarding. She commissioned the art tile of a classic northwest tree species, and I managed to echo the tree theme in the grain of the teak above it. While we are particularly proud of the fireplace, I'd like to emphasize how hard we worked to make it fit with the rest of the room and house. Making four rooms feel like individual pieces of the same whole was rewarding. I feel this is where many remodels, especially amateur efforts, fall short.

Who did the work: I did most of the work myself
Cost: $500 to $1,000
