This fireplace is part of a larger floor plan remodel. I wanted a design that would look good, serve multiple purposes, and be cost-effective. I chose eastern hard rock maple for these reasons. I wanted to execute the installation so that no nails or screws would show, like furniture. For a slab look, I used tile. We are happy with the amount of storage we gained and how the whole wall in maple makes the room look bigger. The cabinetry gave the rooms continuity, supporting our open plan. Having similar detailing gives the room visual interest. Firewood storage is practical and aesthetic.
Who did the work: I did all of the work myself
Cost: $5,000 to $10,000
