This is the only time my husband or I can remember that we decided on a project, designed it, bought materials, and built it all according to plan. No major headaches, no terrible surprises, just a fun and rewarding project. We combined several stock moldings to create a custom look, and completed the work ourselves to save money. This project was my husband's baby. Sometimes he'll still run a hand along it, gaze into the distance, and say, "This mantel is very impressive." It was so nice to have a project go smoothly and quickly, after so much arduous, slow, and soul-crushing remodeling.
