Paying Homage to the 1909 House: After

Who: Laura O
Where: Portland, OR

The kitchen pays homage to our 1909 house without sacrificing 21st-century functionality. It's the perfect blend of old and new and will age gracefully. The remodel also added windows facing west into the backyard, which allows the natural light to pour in and connects the two spaces. We cantilevered 3 1/2 feet out into our side yard. This is a very small addition, but it was enough to give our kitchen the space it needed for a large island, while also adding a much needed half bath on the main level.

Who did the work: I did some of the work myself, but a contractor did most of it
Cost: $25,000 to $50,000
