You showed us your thriftiest redos. Now see which ones were finalists in our Reader Remodel Contest, as picked by you and the editors of This Old House
We began by replacing the door with a pocket door to save space. The ugly carpet is long gone. Daltile octagonal tiles give us a fresh, traditional look. A black granite top and white sink complement the floor. Low-VOC white paint keeps the room bright, though we are still considering adding a splash of color. Subway-tile wainscoting with an accent stripe of floor tiles ties the walls and floor together.
Who did the work: I did some of the work myself, but a contractor did most of it.
