WINNER! A Thrifty Room Redo: After

Who: Kelly A.
Where: Jerome, Idaho

To make the cabinets look more period, I added strips of lattice around all the doors and drawers of the built-ins, then put on new hardware. My husband rewired and installed all the light fixtures. I sanded, primed, and painted a base coat on the floor before using a wood-graining tool to make the floor look distressed. I followed by painting a "rug" and sealing the whole floor with polyurethane.

Who did the work: I did all the work myself.

Cost: $100 to $500
