The cooktop and oven were moved to the opposite side, and a bar-height counter was placed where the wall had been between the kitchen and dining room. An island that can seat five is between the kitchen and family room. The cherry cabinetry was built on site. We had the end cabinet built as a corner cabinet and included an appliance garage with a roll-up door at counter level. Cabinets are finished with Sherwin-Williams' Warm Chestnut stain, and we also added granite tops, a marble mosaic backsplash, and porcelain tile floor.
Who did the work: A contractor did all the work. Cost: $50,000 to $100,000
