Who: Ezra and Nancy S.
Where: Lincoln, Mont.
We purchased our 1983 barn-style home in 2007. We loved everything except its 1980s style, starting with the kitchen, which lacked beauty and function. We had no experience remodeling, and we read every magazine and online article of This Old House that we could get our hands on. We watched DIY Network faithfully, taking notes and referencing online help guides. We turned to our idea book and knew that with a limited budget we would have to reuse most of our materials and do most of the work ourselves. We set our budget at $5,000 and began work in September 2010.
