Our 1924 Dutch Colonial kitchen had been updated in the late 1960s with brown appliances and roosters-and-chicken-wire wallpaper. The cabinets were on angles to accommodate the diagonal circulation path from the dining room door. The new design strategy was to maximize counters while minimizing the circulation path, create an open plan between the kitchen and the formal dining room, and include an informal eating area and half bath.
