You showed us your stunning kitchen transformations. Now see which ones were finalists in our Reader Remodel Contest, as picked by you and the editors of This Old House
I replaced the back door, the dining room French doors, and the two windows in the kitchen. I repiped the entire house with copper and completely rewired the kitchen and dining room, and installed recessed fluorescent lighting and other fixtures. Put in Brazilian teak floors, semi-custom cherry cabinets, and appliances. I had Carrara marble countertops installed; and I installed the maple butcher-block island top. I tiled the backsplash using polished, beveled Carrara-marble subway tile, and added a pot rack over the island. The only part I did not do myself was install the drywall and the marble countertops. I pulled permits and passed all inspections!
Who did the work: I did all the work myself. Cost: $25,000 to $50,000
