You showed us your stunning kitchen transformations. Now see which ones were finalists in our Reader Remodel Contest, as picked by you and the editors of This Old House
First, we tore out the cabinet area over the bar part of the counter. In its place, a three-section cubby was added to house wine, pottery, etc. We then replaced the countertops with granite. I painted the cabinets white, built in a plate rack, and added a nook for cookbooks. The hardware on all cabinets was also replaced. I laid the backsplash in tumbled marble and added an area of design over the stove. We added a Wolf gas range and Fabyka vent system, and a stainless steel dishwasher, refrigerator, and sink. A Delta faucet replaced the old. I replaced the linoleum floor with a stone tile floor. A new lighting fixture added a bright work area.
Who did the work: I did all the work myself. Cost: $5,000 to $10,000
