The kitchen in our 1959 home was dark and outdated, with oak cabinets, Formica countertops, a 1980 electric stove, an old linoleum floor, and an old dishwasher, refrigerator, and faucet. There was a section of cabinets "hovering" over the bar counter, and a hole in the cabinets where a microwave had been located. The vent over the stove was nonfunctioning. Also, there was no place for cookbooks, wine, or to display favorite pieces of pottery.
